1. Where is Dak Lak?
Dak Lak is a province with diverse terrain, located in the South of the Central Highlands and the South Central Coast of Vietnam. It stretches from the western border to the coastal area. It is about 1,170 km southeast of Hanoi and about 315 km northeast of Ho Chi Minh City. With its geographical location:

3. When is the best time to visit Dak Lak?
Dak Lak has a tropical monsoon climate, it has two distinct seasons. That is: the dry season from November to April of the following year and the rainy season from May to October. 4. How to get to Dak Lak?
4.1 Traveling to Dak Lak
4.1.1 By plane:
Buon Ma Thuot Airport is located about 8 km southeast of the city center on National Highway 27 to Da Lat – Lam Dong. Currently, all airlines in Vietnam have established flights to Dak Lak. With flights departing from Hanoi, Hai Phong, Da Nang, Vinh and Saigon.
4.1.2 By bus:
With a dense road system, you can buy bus tickets to Dak Lak from almost all regions. Currently, there are many buses to Dak Lak from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City or from neighboring provinces. Tourists can take a bus to Dak Lak from Mien Dong bus station in Ho Chi Minh City or from Giap Bat bus station in Hanoi. However, if departing from Hanoi, due to the long distance, the number of buses will not be as many. And the bus schedule is usually every other day.
4.1.3 By motorbike:
As a fairly free liberal and means of transport, you can change your schedule and destination along the way. 4.1.4 By train:
An interesting form of transportation that you can choose when traveling to Dak Lak is the train. Whether you are in the North or the South, you can come to Dak Lak by train. The travel time from Hanoi to Tuy Hoa station is about 24 hours. If you depart from Saigon, you will travel by train for about 10 hours to reach Tuy Hoa station. Although the travel time is quite long, in return you will be able to admire the beautiful natural scenery through a new perspective.
- Departing from Saigon, you can take the SE2, SE10, SE22, SE26, TN2, SQN2, SQN4 codes with ticket prices ranging from 250,000 – 1,000,000 VND/way.
- Departing from Hanoi, there are the SE2, SE4, SE10, TN2 train codes with prices ranging from 350,000 – 1,400,000 VND/way.
4.2 Traveling in Dak Lak
4.2.1 Renting a motorbike:
The Central Highlands region has long, straight roads, which is one of the reasons why you cannot miss riding a motorbike here. Although there are not many motorbike rental shops in Buon Ma Thuot, it is not too difficult for you to rent a motorbike as a means of transportation. With a price of about 100,000 VND to 150,000 VND/day, this will be the most flexible means of transportation to travel and explore here.
4.2.2 By bus:
The bus network in Dak Lak has a relatively large number of buses and a fairly large coverage. Therefore, you can go to almost all districts in the province. If you travel alone or do not have the ability to ride a motorbike. You can use the bus to go to some tourist destinations such as Buon Don or Lak Lake. For other places that the bus cannot reach, you can combine it with a motorbike or taxi service.
4.2.3 By taxi:
If you are not familiar with the roads in this area and do not want to have trouble finding your way. A taxi is an ideal means of transport, especially suitable for large groups of friends or families with young children and the elderly.
4.2.4 By car technology:
A better choice for you whether you travel alone or in a large group. That is Grabcar and Grabbike. 5. Sightseeings in Dak Lak
5.1 Buon Ma Thuot City Area
5.1.1 Buon Ma Thuot Intersection
Buon Ma Thuot Intersection is not only an intersection between the main roads in the “coffee capital”. This place also owns the Victory Monument with valuable architecture and historical beauty. Therefore, this place has become a symbol of Buon Ma Thuot city.
5.1.2 Irvingia malayana Oliv. ex Benn tree
The Irvingia malayana Olive tree is very famous and is also a symbol of the Central Highlands. When coming to Buon Ma Thuot city, tourists always want to see the Irvingia malayana Oliv. ex Benn tree with their own eyes. In the center of Buon Ma Thuot city, there is an ancient Irvingia malayana Oliv. ex Benn tree located in the backyard of the provincial cultural center, a few hundred meters from Ban Me intersection.
5.1.3 Ako Dhong Village
Ako Dhong Village or Co Thon Village, Ma Rin village is an Ede village in Buon Ma Thuot city. AKo Dhong in Ede language means upstream village because it is at the source of a large stream in Buon Ma Thuot, Ea Nuol stream. Moreover, this is a very beautifully planned village and retains many traditional values. And currently, it is an attractive tourist destination of the city.
5.1.4 Dak Lak Museum
Dak Lak Museum is a center for preserving and displaying the history and culture of ethnic groups in Dak Lak province. When you come here, you do not only come to visit and entertain. But also to learn and research on the field of ethnic culture and other specialized fields in Dak Lak.
5.1.5 King Bao Dai Villa
This villa, over 80 years old, has become an ancient architectural work. The Villa grounds are very diverse in types and sizes. This is the only place in the city with many primeval trees and ancient trees that are hundreds of years old. After 1977, they used this building as a guest house and partly as a museum of Vietnamese ethnic cultures in Dak Lak.
5.1.6 Khai Doan Imperial Pagoda
Khai Doan Imperial Pagoda is the largest pagoda in Buon Ma Thuot city and the whole Dak Lak province. Moreover, this is also the first pagoda built in the Central Highlands. The name Khai Doan is a combination of the names of King Khai Dinh and his wife, Queen Mother Doan Huy.
5.1.7 Lac Giao Communal House
Lac Giao Communal House is located in Thong Nhat Ward, Buon Ma Thuot City, with an area of 700m2. This is a historical relic of the land reclamation of the first Kinh people in Dak Lak. In addition, this is also a place to worship the god and those who have contributed to the country, a place to pray for health and prosperity.
5.1.8 Buon Ma Thuot Prison
Buon Ma Thuot Prison was established by the French colonialists in the period of 1930 – 1931. It was used to exile and detain patriots. Revolutionary fighters who were arrested and severely sentenced in the Central provinces of Vietnam. And those who pioneered the Listen Tinh Soviet movement.
5.1.9 Buon Ma Thuot Bishop’s Palace
This is a large-scale ancient architectural work, located at 104 Phan Chu Trinh. In particular, this is an ancient architectural work built mostly of wood, roofed with fish-scale tiles, with a very large scale. Moreover, the building has beautiful architecture and bears the imprint of the traditional long house style of the indigenous Ede people. It is located in the middle of a large campus with many strange varieties of plants, flowers and leaves. And it was designed and built by ancient Ede Catholic artisans with very skillful and elaborate hands.
5.1.10 Coffee Museum
With an open space divided into many different areas, the coffee museum is designed according to the long house architecture of the Central Highlands people. In particular, the exhibition space interacts with visitors through the experiences of listening, seeing, tasting, smelling, and touching. In addition, artifacts are collected from all over the world, displayed right on the path, not in glass cabinets, creating a sense of authenticity and closeness.
5.1.11 Trung Nguyen Coffee Village
Trung Nguyen Coffee Village is also known as Coffee Village. This is a large architectural complex in the Northwest of the City, located at the intersection of Ly Thai To – Nguyen Huu Tho. In addition, this famous tourist destination in the Central Highlands possesses a unique architectural space imbued with national identity and a special coffee space.
5.1.12 Ea Kao Lake
About 12km from the center of Buon Ma Thuot city. With favorable conditions in terms of land, natural landscape, geographical location, vegetation, trees, water sources, … Ea Kao Lake tourist area is an ideal place to rest, enjoy the freshness of nature and relax.
5.2 Lak Area
5.2.1 Lak Lake
It is the largest natural freshwater lake in Dak Lak province and the second largest in Vietnam after Ba Be Lake. Around the lake are large mountain ranges covered by primeval forests. In particular, Lak Lake is also a place to preserve the unique and special cultural values of the indigenous M’Nong people.
5.2.2 June Village
Located next to the poetic blue Lak Lake, Jun Village has a gentle, pristine beauty of a Central Highlands village. Moreover, it always retains its traditional identities that have been preserved through many generations. Another pleasure when coming here is that you will be able to row a boat on Lak Lake, enjoy bamboo rice and specialties of Lak Lake. Such as: fish, eel, snails and many rustic dishes with rich flavors of the highland countryside.
5.2.3 Chu Yang Sin National Park
Chu Yang Sin National Park is a place that hides many wonders, attracts tourists, especially scientists. Because of the uniqueness and richness of the natural resources here. If you love mountain climbing, you can climb to the top of Chu Yang Sin to explore the wonders and attractions of nature here.
5.2.4 Yang-tao Elephant Rock
Yang-tao Elephant Rock consists of a pair of Father Elephant Rock and Mother Elephant Rock, famous for the legend of “walking rocks”. It is located about 40 km from the center of Buon Ma Thuot city along National Highway 27, in Yang-tao commune.
Yang-tao Elephant Rock is a giant monolithic granite rock. It is estimated that Mother Elephant Rock is about 200m long, the circumference at the foot of the rock is about 500m and the height is about 30m. And Elephant Father Rock is smaller in size: about 70m long and about 180m in circumference. Elephant Mother Rock is located at the foot of the mountain, a mountain range belonging to Chu Yang Sin National Park. Elephant Father Rock is about 5km to the south, in the middle of a field.
5.2.5 Ea Rbin Lake
Ea Rbin Lake is located in sub-area 1072, Nam Ka Nature Reserve, about 10km from the center of Ea Rbin commune. To get to the lake, from the Nam Ka – Ea Rbin inter-commune road, you ride a motorbike through the green rice and corn fields and then walk along the small trail running along the edge of the special-use forest.
In particular, the first impression when coming here is the chirping of forest birds and the cool atmosphere typical of tropical forests. The lake is more than 200 hectares wide, with clear blue water, surrounded by primeval forests, creating a unique and charming beauty.
5.3 Buon Don Area
5.3.1 Ancient Stilt House
This stilt house is built in the style of the Lao ethnic stilt house, and is the home of Khun Yu Nob. This is the home of a famous elephant hunter in Ban Don and is known as the elephant king. The house is now over 115 years old and is made entirely of good wood from the old forests of Buon Don such as Huong, Cam Xe, Ca Chit, etc. Most notably, even the roof tiles are meticulously carved by hand from Ca Chit wood.
The house also preserves many mementos about the life and elephant hunting tools of the Ban Don elephant king and his successors. The cost of the house when built was 10 large elephants and took nearly 3 years to complete.
5.3.2 Elephant King Tomb
This is the mausoleum of the family of elephant king Khun Yu Nop. This is a historical figure who has become a legend of the Ban Don region, famous for its tradition of hunting and taming wild elephants. The Elephant King or Khun Yu Nob, is the title given to N’ Thu K’ Nul by the King of Siam (Thailand).
He is considered the founder of Ban Don with the profession of hunting and taming elephants. In addition, the elephant king’s tomb is located in the cemetery complex of Yang Lanh village with tombs decorated with tomb statues, a very typical feature of the Central Highlands culture.
5.3.3 Buon Don Suspension Bridge
Buon Don Suspension Bridge is a primitive suspension bridge made of bamboo and rattan to serve tourism needs and is also the name of a famous tourist destination of Ban Don. The bridge is made of bamboo, rattan, reeds, and rattan reinforced with iron cables. In particular, this bridge is built on a giant ancient banyan tree hundreds of years old, growing along the banks of the Serepok River flowing through Ban Don and covering a small island in the middle of the Serepok River.
5.3.4 Trohbu Landscape Garden
Trohbu Landscape Garden is a beautiful landscape garden in Dak Lak located in Buon Nieng, Ea Nuol commune. “Trohbu” in Ede language means “stream snakehead fish valley” (a type of snakehead fish as small as a knife handle, mole-black, living in rocky streams). Currently, Trohbu is a landscape garden with winding walking paths along the slopes and lake shores. In addition, there is a rich and diverse collection of trees, grass, flowers and wild orchids. Or even simple small houses with a fairy-tale color hidden among the tree canopy; there are beautiful miniature landscapes as highlights.
5.3.5 Yok Don National Park
Yok Don National Park is located on a relatively flat area, with two small mountains to the south of the Serepok River. The forest is mainly natural forest, mostly dipterocarp forest. This is one of the largest special-use forests in Vietnam.
5.3.6 Ea H’leo Wind Power Field
Located in Dlieyang commune, this emerging check-in location is the Dlieyang Wind Power Plant. The project not only has the function of catching wind, making electricity for daily life, but also becomes a famous tourist destination, attracting many visitors to visit and check in “virtual life”.
5.3.7 Ea So Nature Reserve
Ea So Nature Reserve is located in Ea Kar, it is very rich in the number of species and the number of individuals in the species typical of tropical forests, including 139 families with 709 plant species. The forest fauna has 44 species of animals belonging to 22 families and 17 orders, of which 17 are rare species listed in the Vietnam Red Book. In addition, there are 158 species of birds belonging to 51 families and 15 orders, of which 9 are listed in the Vietnam Red Book. In addition, there are 23 species of amphibians and reptiles belonging to 11 families and 3 orders, … And this is the legendary place where the gray cow may still be alive.
5.4 Ea Sup Area
5.4.1 Ea Sup Upper Lake
This lake was formed by blocking the Ea Sup stream, and was put into use in 2004. With a water surface area of nearly 1,500 hectares, the water capacity can be up to 146 million cubic meters. Moreover, Ea Sup Upper Lake is not only of great value in terms of irrigation and aquaculture but also attractive in terms of tourism. In addition, the advantage of Ea Sup Thuong Lake is the large water surface, relatively stable in the dry season. And there is a large peninsula with natural forest, the lake is also green with forest trees. When standing on the main dam of the lake, you can see the large natural forests with rich flora and fauna.
5.4.2 Yang Prong Cham Tower
Yang Prong Cham Tower (Great God) is also known as Green Forest Cham Tower. This is a Cham tower in Ea Rok commune, about 15 km from Ea Sup town, about 100 km from Buon Ma Thuot city. In particular, this is the only Cham tower not built on high hills, without shade like other towers. But it is hidden under the ancient canopy of Ea Sup old forest and along the Ea H’leo river. This is also the only Cham tower found in the Central Highlands.
5.5 Krong Ana Area
5.5.1 Dray Nur Waterfall
Dray Nur Waterfall is located 25 km from Buon Ma Thuot City following National Highway 14, passing Buon Kuop Hydropower Plant about 3 km. This is a majestic waterfall that nature has bestowed upon Dak Lak. The waterfall is over 250m long and over 30m high, connecting the two banks of Dak Lak and Dak Nong provinces.
5.5.2 Dray Sap Waterfall
Dray Sap Waterfall is also known as Chong Waterfall. This waterfall is actually located in Lam Dong but is not far from Dray Nur Waterfall. In the Ede language, Dray Sap means “smoke waterfall” (dray: waterfall, sap: smoke), because the water flow from above into the valley creates a large mass of water mist flying like smoke.
5.5.3 Gia Long Waterfall
Also known as Dray Sap Thuong Waterfall, more than 30 km from Buon Ma Thuot city. The waterfall has a total planned area of 105 hectares with a height of about 30m and a width of about 100m. It is as wide as the width of the Serepok River, surrounded by giant trees, creating a majestic and wild landscape. In particular, the waterfall has an artificial tunnel connecting the surrounding roads, with suspension bridge piers built by the French in the 1930s. Or the most beautiful stone barriers in Vietnam were also built at the same time.
5.6 Krong Bong
5.6.1 Krong Kmar Waterfall
The waterfall belongs to Krong Kmar town, located 60 km from Buon Ma Thuot, right at the foot of the majestic Chu Yang Sin mountain range. The waterfall is very special because of the rocky beaches stretching along the river, clear water with natural beaches.
5.6.2 H’Ngo Village
The H’Ngo A base village, Hoa Phong commune is famous for the wild, poetic beauty of the H’Ngo waterfall (also known as Drai Yang Long). The waterfall originates from the top of Chu Yang Sin and flows down to H’Ngo A village, so the locals also call the H’Ngo waterfall by the familiar name of the source waterfall.
5.6.3 Thuy Tien Waterfall
From the center of Krong Nang district, go towards Ea Puk commune about 8km to reach Thuy Tien Waterfall, also known as Ba Tang Waterfall. This is a beautiful waterfall located in a wild area, little known. Not only beautiful, this place also preserves the heroic legend of a loyal and brave girl
5.6.4 Truc Lam Tu Giac Zen Monastery
Truc Lam Tu Giac Zen Monastery was built at Chu Kuin Mountain, Ea Wi village, Ea Yong commune, Krong Pak, this is a temple in the Zen system. The temple is built with its back against the mountain, in front of it is a vast lake creating a beautiful landscape. From afar, the temple appears as the main subject in the whole landscape painting, the “front and back mountain” position is very charming.
5.6.5 Dray K’nao Waterfall
Dray K’nao Waterfall is located on Ea Krang stream, the confluence of Ea Tong, Ea Tlu, Ea K’sumg streams and flows into Krong Hding river. The source of the waterfall is the peak of Cu Pa mountain and the majestic Chu Yang Sin range, associated with many mysterious legends. This tourist area is located in M’Drak district, 87 km from Buon Ma Thuot city along National Highway 26.
5.7 Mesmerizing bays
5.7.1. Tuy Hoa Beach
- Address: An Phu Commune, Dak Lak.
Dak Lak is blessed with a long coastline. And located right in the center of Tuy Hoa, there is a beautiful beach of more than 10km, hidden under the green pine trees. Not as crowded as Nha Trang or Mui Ne beaches, Tuy Hoa beach will attract you with its peaceful, simple beauty as this is where people often gather every cool afternoon.
However, Tuy Hoa beach still has many interesting activities such as sea sports. Or the shops along the shore, serving attractive seafood dishes. Such as: blood cockles, shrimp, crab, oysters, just add a little rice wine and you can sip all afternoon.
5.7.2. Vung Ro Bay
- Address: Xuan Hoa Nam Commune, Dak Lak.
Vung Ro is a small bay located on the border between Dak Lak and Khanh Hoa, surrounded by all three mountain ranges of Dak Lak.
Not only is Vung Ro beach beautiful, but the road to Vung Ro is also enough to “captivate” any picky visitor. Be prepared to admire the rows of trees stretching out, the green grass carpets following each other. In the distance is the blue sea that looks like a mirror reflecting all the beauty.
5.7.3. Xuan Dai Bay
- Address: Stretching across three communes of Xuan Tho, Xuan Thinh and Song Cau. From Tuy Hoa, you follow National Highway 1A about 45km north, meet Gang slope and you will arrive.
If Vung Ro Bay is famous for its peaceful seascape, Xuan Dai Bay is known for its unique rocky rocks. It was formed by the Co Ngua mountain range stretching out to the sea, under the influence of “water flowing and wearing away rocks”.
But Xuan Dai Bay is not only about sand and rocky shores. There are also many long-standing fish sauce villages, salt fields in Song Cau, … Therefore, this is the place for you to see with your own eyes the simple, honest life of the people of the sea.
5.7.4. Bai Mon – Mui Dien
- Address: Dong Be Village, Hoa Tam Commune, Dak Lak.
Bai Mon is one of the easternmost points of Vietnam and is also the place to welcome the earliest sunrise. Bai Mon Beach is not long, only about half a kilometer, but is sandwiched between two mountain ranges on both sides. Therefore, the sea is quite calm, with gentle waves and a gentle slope, very suitable for swimming.
At Bai Mon, there is also Mui Dien Lighthouse, commonly known as Dai Lanh Cape. This is the first lighthouse to welcome the sun in Vietnam. And although the road to the lighthouse is a bit difficult, you will still be satisfied with the picturesque scenery.
5.7.5. Bai Xep – Ganh Ong

One of the settings for famous movies in Vietnam. Bai Xep has now become a must-check-in location when traveling to Dak Lak.
Possessing rocky beaches with rugged waves, green grass that is both wild and simple, Bai Xep always has an endless attraction for tourists looking for a peaceful place to admire nature.
5.8. Paradise of wild islands
5.8.1. Cu Lao Mai Nha
- Address: Located in An Hai commune, Dak Lak.
With a rather strange name, Cu Lao Mai Nha is known as the “Robinson desert island” of Dak Lak. Although only about half an hour by boat from the shore, this island is very rarely inhabited. And thanks to that, it still retains its inherent wildness.
When coming to Cu Lao Mai Nha, don’t be too surprised by the clear sea water and extremely smooth white sand. Moreover, it is also an ideal destination for a night camping trip on the sea. But note that you need to prepare all the necessary equipment before deciding to stay on the island.
5.8.2. Hon Nua
- Address: At the foot of Dai Lanh bridge, there is a boat rental service to Hon Nua for 100,000 VND/person.
If Cu Lao Mai Nha is Robinson’s deserted island, Hon Nua is the “forgotten land”. The island is completely uninhabited, only has a border guard station.
But because of that, Hon Nua has an irresistible attraction in trips to Dak Lak. The most interesting experience in Hon Nua is certainly immersing yourself in the clear blue sea, camping overnight on the beach with your loved ones.
5.8.3. Nhat Tu Son Island
- Address: Located in Song Cau commune, 40 km north of Tuy Hoa.
Besides Diep Son of Khanh Hoa, Nhat Tu Son Island is equally famous for its walking path in the middle of the sea. Nhat Tu Son is an island near the shore, connected to the mainland by a small road. Every time the tide is low, you can comfortably walk to the island to explore the beautiful island covered in green forests. And in between are rocks and mysterious caves.
5.8.4. Hon Yen
More than 20 km from Tuy Hoa, Hon Yen belongs to Nhon Hoi village. This is a favorite check-in spot not only for tourists. But also for photographers thanks to its colorful and shaped coral reefs on land.
You don’t have to take a boat to the middle of the sea, just need the tide to recede to see the coral. According to locals, the tide is only low in the afternoon at the beginning of the month, or in the middle of the lunar month. Moreover, each low tide usually lasts 2-3 days, revealing layers of thorny rocks and poetic golden sand beaches.
5.8.5. Chop Chai Mountain
Standing tall in the middle of Tuy Hoa plain is Chop Chai Mountain with an altitude of 394m. Chop Chai Mountain belongs to the administrative area of Binh Kien commune, located about 4km from Tuy Hoa center.
