Itinerary Details

Day 1: Hanoi - Nghia Lo - Tu Le & hiking Thai Villages. Homestay in Tu Le (L/D)

Morning Activities:

Leave Hanoi from 7.30 am to start your journey to discover Yen Bai Province where has famous Tu Le and Mu Cang Chai.

After that you travel ahead to Nghia Lo where is the home of Thai minority people and then go ahead to Tu Le Town.

Have lunch at restaurant.

Afternoon activities:

This afternoon you will start your trekking route through the villages. And it depends on your health you can make short around 5 – 7km (need 2 hours for walking) or far from than within 10km (need 3,5 hours for walking) to village such as: Nam Co, Nam Pang to Bung Som village. By this route you will have the passing stream, rice fields (if on season will have rice from green to yellow from end May to Mid-Oct yearly), villages of ethnic people for more discover Thai people

Special note: The walking and hiking road is so flat and not too much difficult, however, it will pass through the fields and stream which make you more attractive to enjoy

Reaching the homestay you will check in homestay. Have dinner with the family and overnight at stilt-house with mattress and pillow (as dorm) at BUNG SOM HOMESTAY VILLAGE.

Note: If you would like to overnight at hotel just only at hotel and return the main road where has homestay with private room with toilet inside or hotel

Hiking difficulty: Easy ( 1/5) ~ 5 -10 Km in 2-3,5 hrs

Driving: 260 Km – 5,5 hours

Day 2: Tu Le - Khau Pha Pass - Mu Cang Chai. Homestay in Mu Cang Chai (B/L/D)

Morning Activities:

Get up early and enjoy the morning at the village if you can do it as well as enjoy the mountain atmosphere and scenery to fresh yourself

Have breakfast at the homestay and then you start trip at 8.00 am with our guide and driver to reach Khau Pha Pass – one of the great passes in North Vietnam where offer you a great chance to get nice view of the valley Tu Le. The road leads you to have a lot if stopover points for shooting nice photos as well as view point of Lim Mong and Lim Thai Village, Paragliding Point at the pass’s summit

You reach Mu Cang Chai around 9.30 am and will have a trekking route. Depending on the month you take the trip the trekking route can make flexible to arrange so that you can get the best view of the villages and beauties in Mu Cang Chai

  • Option 1: Homestay at La Pan Tan Village for trekking route of rice season (From June to Mid- October especially Golden Season on September and October yearly)

You will make a trekking route from Che Cu Nha village to Hang Dang De village and Thai Village with the distance around 10 km and need 3,5 hours on walking

Or you can make change to trek to Raspberry Hill with 7km and need 2 – 3 hours for hiking

  • Option 2: If you choose homestay at Thai Village in Mu Cang Chai Town center

When reach Mu Cang Chai you will make trekking to Raspberry Hill in La Pan Ta Village within 7km and need 2,5 hours to see the nice rice terrace fields which is the simple of Mu Cang Chai. This is the interesting and challenging to have an adventure trail

If you visit June is the growing season after drain water to fields, you can experience with local people into the field to grow rice (ask to learn this)

In case visit July and August the rice is green to see and shoot green rice field photos. And the most beautiful is golden season from September till Mid- October when rice turn gold and local people start to harvest. If you travel on the time they harvest you can ask to join and get experience how to cut rice on the field.

Have a picnic lunch or at local small restaurant

Afternoon & Evening Activities:

This afternoon you will be transfer to Hmong House by motorbike (or can walking) where you will learn to draw Patik Painting to make the traditional clothes of local minority people, visit their traditional house. This is also a nice chance for you to learn more of Hmong people cultures.

Continue your trekking route to reach Bamboo Forest or Horse Rice Filed to get more discovery and enjoy the amazing sunset. This distance walking is around 5 – 8km

After that the driver pick up and transfer you to homestay in Mu Cang Chai town center. Check in homestay. Have dinner at restaurant. Overnight at stilt-house

Day 3: Mu Cang Chai - Nghia Lo travel back Hanoi (B/L)

Morning Activities:

After breakfast at hotel, you will hike up Kim Noi village on motorbike or car transfer if small group use 7 seats car. You will pass through the village and a waterfall area. This is one of the nice rice field to discover and enjoy as well as can join farm work if on the season.

Next you visit Corn House at Mang Mu village where you can see local people to store corn and learn how to draw a paint by beeswax

After that the driver transfer you back Tu Le town where you have lunch at restaurant

Afternoon Activities:

This afternoon you continue you trip to return Hanoi city and spend more 4 hours to reach back Hanoi. If you drop off Noi Bai airport your flight must be after 18.00

Special note: Flower season to discover and enjoy in Mu Cang Chai to have the flexible itinerary for visiting and hiking route as months.

  • January to March: since October and November, the local people start grow sow seeds and take care them to have the yellow mustard flowers in the Springs from January till March. The most beautiful places to see mustard flowers in Mu Cang Chai are: Che Cu Nha, De Xu Phinh, Cao Pha, La Pan Tan.
  • May and June: This is the rainy season when there are a lot of rain so that local people have water since nature bless for the land to drain water to terrace field. They make land and field to prepare for new rice season. This is also a great chance for photo lovers to have photo of draining season at rice terrace field from early June
  • July and August: Is the green season of rice on terrace fields which make you to have a different view of this land. The climate this time also have rain
  • September and October: Is the best time to combine visit villages and golden season at rice terrace fields
  • From December till January : Hoa Tớ Dày or Mai Anh Đào (or called Wild Peach Blossom) which make Mu Cang Chai amazing as a picture. This flower bloom within 10 days and then will have sprout. You can discover and enjot at Pu Nhu Village, La Pan Tan Commune, Mu Cang Chai town centre, Thào Chua Chải village, Chế Cu Nha Commune, Mí Háng village at Mồ Dề Commune và Lao Chải Commune, especially if stay at Garrya Mu Cang Chai resort.
