Truc Lam Monastery

Truc Lam Monastery or Thien Vien Truc Lam is located out the center of Da Lat. It’s on the road from the city centre towards Prenn Hill. The temple is located near the Tuyen Lam Lake. It’s one of the most famous tourist site in Da Lat City.

Why Truc Lam Monastery is unique?

Along the road winding up the hill to the temple, the bell tower is visible from afar. The tiled roof of the pagoda is also notable, contrasting against the pine forests which surround it. The entrance of the temple is somewhat isolated.

Therefore there’s an immediate entrance to the temple with 61 steps or climbing, or you can go past Truc Lam Monastery then climbs 222 steps past the triple gated entrance to enter the main courtyard in front of the temple. The temple can be found on an area of land encompassing 24 hectares. There are just two hectares which are occupied by buildings and divided into 2 areas. The domestic areas and public areas. The domestic area is closed to the general public. There are two domestic quarters, for the monks and nuns. Each one of the domestic quarters has 2 meeting rooms for sangha, a meditation hall, a kitchen, dining room and a drop.

It’s worth a visit Truc Lam Monastery

Nowadays, there are roughly 50 monks and 50 nuns in religious practice in Truc Lam Monastery. The public quarters are located in a plateau place on the grounds of the temple. It’s about 1300m above sea level, overlooking Benhuit Mountain and the wide expanse of Tuyen Lam Lake. The public quarters were a construction works done on the architectural design of Ngo Viet Thu and Nguyen Tin. The pagoda opened on March 13, 1994.

The public quarters consist of a ceremonial hall, flanked by the bell tower on the right and guest facilities on the left side. In front of the guest centers lies a rose garden, and in the front slopes of the temple in front of the gate are an artificial lake with a capacity of meters.

The statue in the key ceremonial hall is composed Gautama Buddha seated on a lotus, flanked on each side by Thu Su Loi, Su Loi Van and Pho Hien bodhisattvas. Correspondingly known for their wisdom and dedication. An adjacent hall is utilized on the fourteenth and 29th of every lunar month. That’s the day before the full moon and the moon. The abbot retains a discussion session on meditation with meditation pupils, such as lay Buddhists.

Among the objectives of the temple would be to recreate the spirit of Zen Buddhism under Tran Dynasty, which ruled Vietnam shape 1225 to 1400. The tradition practiced this was begun by Emperor Tran Nhan Tong, who resigned the throne in favour of his son Tran Anh Tong becoming a Buddhist monk. Who founded a tradition in Zen. He’d incorporated the 3 sects of Zen that had come to Vietnam.

This came after he had led royal troops in defeating Nguyen – Mong before retreating to Yen Tu mountain to begin his religious life before travelling around the country to expound the dharma.
