Day 1: Imperial Heritage & Royal Architecture (L)
Morning Activities
Start your first day in Hue by visiting the Imperial City (The Citadel), the political and cultural center of the Nguyen Dynasty for over 140 years. Explore the grandeur of the Imperial City while learning about the last emperors of Vietnam.
Next, visit the Forbidden Purple City, which was exclusively for the imperial family during the Nguyen Dynasty. Although the Forbidden Purple City was damaged during the war, the existing buildings are still beautiful.
Afternoon Activities
After having lunch at a local restaurant, visit Hue’s most famous royal tombs in the countryside. The first royal tomb to visit is the Khai Dinh Tomb, which is a unique combination of Vietnamese and European architectures. The next royal tomb to visit is the Tu Duc Tomb, famous for its poetic beauty surrounded by pine trees, lakes, and pavilions.
On the way back to the city, visit a traditional incense-making village, which is one of the most beautiful scenes to take photos of while in Hue.
Evening (Optional)
Spend the evening relaxing on the Perfume River or tasting Hue’s specialties such as Hue-style bun bo or royal dishes.
